A quick response by the Castlegar Fire Department averted disaster Monday evening.

Reports of an interface fire in the Oglow subdivision came in around 4:45 p.m.

It appears the fire started in an outbuilding and quickly spread to the surrounding grass. The property borders a forested area with dozens of houses are nearby.

The Castlegar Fire Department was on scene within minutes of the first report of smoke. Other area fire departments also responded to the incident.

The property is actually under the jurisdiction of the Ootischenia Fire Department, so once the initial attack was complete, the scene was turned over to OFD who remained on scene until about 6:30 p.m. to monitor the situation.
