Castlegar garbage/recycling fees to see small increase in 2022

City will introduce organics collection in fall 2022

The City of Castlegar is planning on a minimal increase in garbage and recycling rates for 2022.

City council passed initial readings of the 2022 garbage fees bylaw at their Dec. 6 meeting.

Single family garbage residential rates will increase by $3.38 to $120.88 annually. In addition the yard waste fee will increase by $1.04 to $37.04, for a total bill of $157.92 for the year.

The rate for secondary suites will increase by $2.37 to $84.62.

The fee for residents using a second garbage cart adds another $120.88 to their bill.

The bylaw is scheduled for adoption at the Dec. 20 council meeting.

The city is scheduled to add an organics collection program in the fall of 2022.

City staff are currently working on the planning of the new program to determine the cost. They expect to present an amending bylaw in the second quarter of 2022 that will provide more details regarding the program as well as any additional cost required to successfully deliver the service.
