A home in the 2200 block of Columbia Avenue was severely damaged by fire on Thursday, March 17.

The fire was reported shortly before 10:30 p.m. All occupants and pets in the home were able to escape without injury.

Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio says the cause of the fire is still undetermined, but it is not considered suspicious.

The occupants of the home have tenant’s insurance, according to Lattanzio.

This was the second fire that the Castlegar Fire Department responded to in the same day. A small fire at Stanley Humphries Secondary School was extinguished earlier in the afternoon.
