Castlegar residents can expect to receive their 2021 property tax notices soon.

After altering payment deadlines last year due to the pandemic, the city is returning to normal deadlines for 2021. Property taxes are due on July 2 and residents are encouraged to pay on time to avoid a penalty.

Because of COVID-19, the city is encouraging residents to use online payment options.

Payments can be made in person or online through your financial institution, online via credit card at castlegar.ca/online and by mail. At City Hall, cheques can be left in the payment dropbox, and cash, cheque or debit payments can be made at the counter.

Home Owner Grant changes

The province has made some changes to the Home Owner Grant this year. All homeowners must apply directly to the province.

The city will be providing detailed information on the new process with its 2021 Property Tax notices.

For more information about the new process and how to apply, call 1-888-355-2700 or visit gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.

The city encourages homeowners to apply for their Home Owner Grant, a provincial subsidy that reduces the amount of property tax paid for principal residences, on time to ensure that the reduction is reflected on their account.
