Unsurprisingly, considering the entire Regional District of Central Kootenay is at a drought level 4 out of 5, July was hotter and drier than average in the Castlegar area.
Only twice during the month did more than a trace of rain appear for a combined total of just 5 mm of rain for the month. That is only 10 per cent of normal.
According to weather forecaster Jesse Ellis, total July rainfall has been below average for each of the last ten years.
The mean monthly temperature of 22.8 degrees was 2.6 degrees above average.
The hottest day of July was the 21st at 37.7 C. The coolest temperature was recorded on July 3 at 7.5 C.
The record high temperature for July is 41.8 C , set on July 1, 2021, the day the Merry Creek wildfire began.
