Castlegar firefighters and A&W staff combined to make the 2012 Toy Drive the best ever.

'Tis the season, for giving unto others. Castlegar Firefighters and A&W staffers showed their holiday spirit on Saturday with the annual Toy Drive at Castlegar A&W.

"The firemen have been doing the toy drive for over 30 years," said Castlegar A&W owner/manager Shirley Henderson. "Castlegar A&W has been involved for 15 years. Every year it amazes me how it just gets better and better. For everyone that comes in and brings a toy, they get a free teen burger and drink coupon."

The toys are collected and given to the Castlegar Community Harvest Food Bank where they are placed in hampers for local children from less fortunate families in the area.

"As a group of people we decided many years ago, that there was the need in the city to help those less fortunate than us, said Castlegar Fire Department captain Ray Hackett. "We thought the toy drive was something we could really get behind."

Almost a dozen firefighters donated their time to help out at A&W Saturday to collect toys and even work behind the counter serving customers.

"It's gone great today," said Hackett. "The generosity of the people is just terrific."
