Castlegar council has decided to recommend the approval of two more retail cannabis stores.

If the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch grants their approval, Cannabis Corner will be located in the Safeway strip mall and Jimmy’s will be located in the Kootenay Crossing Mall.

During the public input period, the city did not receive any letters of opposition to either of the applications.

The proposed location for Cannabis Corner is approximately 100 metres from another cannabis retailer proposal for the old Arby’s building.

The City of Castlegar did not set restrictions on minimum distances between retailers when developing its cannabis zoning bylaws.

The city has already granted approval to three other retail cannabis stores.

Castlegar’s first store, Higher Path, opened last week. It was the ninth store to open in the province.
