The City of Castlegar is looking for volunteers to serve on a council-appointed board or committee.

Positions include the Board of Variance which has one opening, the Advisory Planning Commission which has two openings and other committees that are deemed necessary by city council.

The Advisory Planning Commission advises council on matters concerning land use, community planning, proposed bylaws and permits.

The Board of Variance deals with applications to vary a zoning bylaw or land use bylaw on the grounds of hardship.

If you are interested in volunteering, send a written application and resume clearly marked as volunteer position to the City of Castlegar by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8, 2017.

Applications and resumes should be forwarded to the attention of Tracey Butler, Director of Corporate Services, City of Castlegar, 460 Columbia Avenue, Castlegar, BC V1N 1G7.

For more information call 250-365-8973 or email tbutler@castlegar.ca.

Wanted: communications specialists

The city is also gathering a roster of writers and communications specialists to help with its communication and engagement strategy.

“City council included in the budget this year a new line item for communications,” explained Castlegar CAO Chris Barlow. “The city has been working to do more with public communication and engagement, not only publicly, but also internally.”

To help with this plan the city is looking for communications experts to help them as they do not have a similar position in-house. Expected skills include content and technical writing, communication and engagement planning, traditional and social media advertising and production management.

The city would then call upon those people to work depending on what the project, program or communication effort might be. Successful candidates will work on a contract basis.

Expressions of interest documents are available at castlegar.ca. The tender closing date is Dec. 5. For more information, contact Chris Barlow at 250-365-7227.
