The City of Castlegar has appointed three members of the community to sit on a committee to review the salaries of the mayor and city councillors.

Former city councillor Deb McIntosh, former city staff member Carolyn Rempel and Andy Roberts will sit on the committee with Mayor Kirk Duff acting as the council liaison for the group.

In 2008 the city council of the day adopted a bylaw that called for a salary and expense review six months prior to local government elections. With an election slated for Oct. 15, 2022, it is now time for a review.

The independent committee will make recommendations regarding stipends, indemnities, expense allowances, per diems and travel expenses, and any other payments or benefits paid to members of council. Any changes that council then decides to implement will go into effect after the election.
