West Kootenay Traffic Services has reported that on October 13, 2011 at about 5:15 p.m. Castlegar RCMP and Fire-Rescue responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on Hwy 22 about seven kilometres south of Castlegar.
Initial investigation revealed a 44-year-old male from the Trail area was travelling south in a red 1997 Honda car and crossed into the oncoming lane. The driver of a 2009 Dodge pickup was travelling north and unable to avoid being struck by the car.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and the driver (sole occupant) of the car died at the scene as a result of his injuries.The name of the deceased was being withheld until next of kin could be contacted.
The highway was closed for about four hours following the incident.Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP or the West Kootenay Traffic Services Unit.
