On March 6, 2013 at approximately 9:45 a.m., Midway RCMP and Fire & Rescue responded to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 3 approximately 7.5 kms east of Greenwood.
Police said an initial investigation revealed the sole occupant of a 1997 Chevy Tahoe was traveling westbound on Hwy 3 and lost control entering a sharp corner.
The driver, identified as 70-year-old Shiela Ann Hackett of Grand Forks, was transported to Grand Forks Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Road conditions were slippery with some slush and light snow falling at the time.
Investigation still ongoing by West Kootenay Traffic Services and the Coroner Service.
Winter conditions are still prevalent in the Kootenay region and police remind motorists they need to be cautious and drive according to road conditions.
