RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Services issued a 24-hour driving prohibition against a woman who was found driving without a license while under the influence of drugs.

Const. Lisa Schmidtke pulled the woman over at 11:40 a.m. in the Kootenay Market parking lot.

“During the investigation, it was determined that the driver was currently unlicensed,” said Const. Schmidtke. “The investigation resulted in a 24-hour driving prohibition by drugs.”

The 24-hour prohibition was issued under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The driver was permitted to keep her vehicle.

“In this case, it is to the officer’s discretion and in this case, I did have a sober driver come and pick up her vehicle,” explained Const. Schmidtke.

The constable was aided by another officer, which she said is standard in these situations.

“Generally we will cover each other off, especially with impairment,” she said.
