An accident near a construction zone Friday afternoon has resulted in charges against the driver of one of the vehicles involved.

The accident took place on Highway 3 on the Kinnaird Bridge.

Constable Scott Powell with the Castlegar RCMP explained that even though multiple vehicles were stopped at the scene, there were only two involved in the accident. “There were numerous witnesses to the matter,” he said.

“The driver of one of the vehicles was charged under the motor vehicle act,” said Powell, who also reported that the investigation was aided by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement unit.

“Because of their proximity [the Bombi Weigh Scales] they came and helped out and were able to help us determine what suitable charges should be laid against the driver of the vehicle for a couple of infractions,” explained Powell.

“With the help of CVSE we were able to look at the mechanical aspect of the vehicle as well as from the witness information, be able to piece together the collision and ticket the driver appropriately,” Powell said.

He also reported that no one was taken to hospital from the accident scene.

Traffic was backed up for quite some time, especially for vehicles headed into Castlegar, but things would have been worse had it not been for the fact that Emcon was already on the scene flagging for road maintenance on the west end of the Kinnaird Bridge.

“People have to me more aware of flaggers and construction zones and reduce their speed appropriately,” warned Powell.
