The fire truck that the City of Castlegar donated to a city in southern Mexico was put to good use this week.
Castlegar fire chief Sam Lattanzio was recently contacted by his counterpart Roque Pineda in San Pedro Pochutla, Mexico. He told Lattanzio that the former Engine #3 was used to put out a major fire in the city.

The fire started when property owners were attempting to remove a beehive with fire.
The San Pedro Pochutla newspaper Publimar is reporting that the fire spread to the home and became more involved when it reached an area where coheteria (fireworks or amateur rockets) were stored.
Some of the gear the local firefighters were wearing also came from the Castlegar Fire Department and Mercer Celgar.
Lattanzio says it is noteworthy that the incident occurred exactly one year from when the truck was driven south by Firefighters Without Borders Canada.
