Fans of the Humpty Dumpty sculpture at the Castlegar and District Library are rejoicing that the egg is going to stay perched on its wall.
The sculpture was part of Sculpturewalk in 2015 and as its lease was due to expire. That would have meant the sculpture would be returned to its creator, artist Kimber Fiebiger, in the United States.
But this time, all the kings horses and all the kings men were successful in keeping Humpty together, as local accounting firm Grant Thornton LLP stepped up to purchase it.
Grant Thorton partners Geoff Yule and Ron Anderson decided that a good way for them to celebrate their 25 years in the community would be to keep Humpty Dumpty in the community as a legacy piece.
“We knew we had to step up and ensure it would stay a focal point in the city in which we live and work,” said Yule. “Day-to-day we help businesses reach their full potential, but it’s also a priority for us to help our communities thrive. We were pleased to lend a helping hand to the Sculpturewalk.”
Sculpturewalk executive director Joy Barrett said she is grateful for the financial support. “The Humpty Dumpty sculpture is adored by everyone,” she said. “Kids love him, and it’s extremely fitting that he’s enjoying a good book at his now permanent home by the library.”
