For Kevin Mason, who was raised in Castlegar, joining the Iron Ride for ALS was an easy decision. The ride consists of riding across Canada on a motorcycle in 90 hours.

Mason, and fellow riders Blaine Despres and Hal Spelliscy, will be travelling between June 4 and 7. They will depart Halifax on June 4 and arrive in Richmond three days later.

"It's a great way to bring together my passion for bikes and apparent penchant for working very long hours," said Mason. "So, it's a test of endurance and given the cause being ALS, a rather pernicious disease that took my Mom back about eight years ago in 2003. I've got a personal connection with the perils of living with ALS and what that means."

Kevin is now living in Gibson's on the Sunshine Coast but still has close ties to Castlegar with his father and sister living here.

The riders are hoping to raise $20,000 for ALS research.
