Habitat for Humanity West Kootenay chair Chuck Henderson hands the keys to the new house in Castlegar over to Bianka Nash and her children Callum and Lylah.

On Sunday Oct 28 Habitat for Humanity celebrated an open house for our first Castlegar family and Rev. Ann Pollock from the United Church was there for the blessing.  Habitat would like to thank the community for coming together to make this happen.  Starting from the City donating the lot, then two more Platinum sponsors, Teck and Kootenay Savings with very generous grants.  During the build we ended up with many more sponsors including 10 gold, 34 silver and 44 bronze.  In addition local trades were very generous with their volunteer time plus the Selkirk College Carpentry and Electrical programs were a great help.  Because of this overwhelming support we almost have enough funds left over to start another Castlegar house once we locate a lot.  I would also like to personally thank the directors for their hard work.  Ken Beynon,Alan Middleton,  Stuart Grave, Herb Hess,Tom Babott, Joshua Snauwaert, Beryl Haigh, Judy Dallas, Krystle Kalesnikoff, Kathy Fair, Griffin Seed, Joni Bund, Marc Allarie & Colleen Allarie.  Congratulations again to Bianka Nash and her two children.
