Winds have been cooperating with firefighters on the Harrop fire, with any growth being toward the south, away from the community of Harrop.

Karlie Shaughnessy of the Southeast Fire Centre told the Star on Saturday morning that the area of the fire stands at about 1,548 hectares, up from 1500 reported on Wednesday. She said 44 fire fighters with three pieces of heavy equipment are building fire guards, while three helicopters are working the fire from the air.

One hectare is 10,000 square metres or 2.5 acres or about 1.2 football fields.
