Downtown Castlegar was busier than usual last weekend during the I Heart Downtown promotion.

Thirty-five businesses participated in the event that showcased what downtown has to offer and featured prize draws and even a pop-up art gallery.

“I think it was a great success,” said Shawna Tarasoff, owner of Mother Natures and organizer of the event. “Everybody is speaking really positively about it in sales, foot traffic, excitement.”

The winner of the grand prize draw for $800 in gift certificates from downtown businesses was Katrina Vermette, who lives downtown. Together with her daughter, she walked to every participating business and entered 33 draws.

After talking to the participating businesses, Tarasoff hopes to run the event again next year.

“Everyone was really positive, there was lots of buzz, good feedback, everyone wants to do it again,” she said.
