Polls are now closed in Castlegar’s municipal election: follow the results

Results on mayor’s races across the province updated as they come in

The next round of local leaders will be announced shortly as Castlegar’s 2022 municipal election comes to an end.

Two mayoral candidates — Maria McFaddin and Lawrence Chernoff — were on the ballot. McFaddin has been a city councillor for the past four years and Chernoff served on city council for 15 years and 13 years as mayor before losing his seat in 2018.

Where you can vote:

Polls are open in Castlegar from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Residents of Castlegar can vote at the Castlegar & District Community Complex located at 2101 6th Ave.

Who you can vote for:

In addition to the mayor candidates, seven candidates are vying for six council seats. The council candidates are Darcy Bell, Brian Bogle, Sandy Bojechko, Shirley Falstead, Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff, Cherryl Macleod and Florio Vassilakakis.

What happens once polls close?

After 8 p.m. local time, election officials will begin counting and tallying the ballots.

Regional District:

RDCK Area J residents can vote at one of three locations — Robson Community Hall (3067 Waldie Ave, Robson), Ootischenia Community Hall (1119 Columbia Rd, Ootischenia) or the Castlegar Complex (2101 6th Ave, Castlegar).

Two candidates — Henny Hanegraaf and Kim Tassone — will be on the Area J ballot.
