June hotter, drier than normal in Castlegar area

June mean temperature was 2.5 degrees above normal

June weather was warmer and drier than normal in the Castlegar area.

According to local forecaster Jesse Ellis, June temperatures were 2.5 degrees above average and total monthly rainfall was 37 per cent below normal.

Ellis says a dry southwesterly flow brought progressively warmer daytime temperatures the first eight days of the month. The hottest day was June 8 when temperatures reached 35 C.

Periods of showers or thundershowers followed for the next two weeks before a dry southwesterly flow again regained control for a return to hotter temperatures and sunnier skies.

The hottest June day on record was set on June 30, 2021 at 43.9 C. That was the day before the Merry Creek Wildfire broke out on the edge of Castlegar.
