Update, July 5 at 12:15 p.m.

The evacuation alert reported in the story below has been rescinded.

An evacuation alert has been issued to 25 properties along the Lardeau River north of Kaslo.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay’s Emergency Operations Centre said in a release Monday evening there is potential for flooding south from Poplar Creek to the confluence of the Duncan and Lardeau rivers.

The alert comes after a day of heavy rainfall in the West Kootenay, where the BC River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory.

Evacuation alerts are not orders. Residents are asked to move animals and pets to safe areas and have supplies ready if an evacuation order is announced.
