The Castlegar McDonald’s raised nearly $3,200 for a local seniors’ program on McHappy Day.

Sandi McCreight, program coordinator for the Seniors Outreach and Support (SOS) Program, was among the volunteers at the McDonald’s on May 3, and was pleased with the turnout.

“It was non-stop; it was really, really busy and the staff said that it was great. They were really thrilled that we were there too,” she said. “We really had fun.”

Nicole Purves, assistant coordinator for SOS, and Brittany Scott and Hailey Maclellan, practicum students, were also on hand to help out, as were Mayor Lawrence Chernoff and members of the Castlegar Fire Department.

“That had nothing to do with me,” said McCreight. “I guess they volunteer every year at McHappy Day.”

McHappy Day raised $3,180 for SOS and McCreight, Purves and the practicum students had a chance to talk to people coming into about the SOS Program.

“More people than I ever imagined said, ‘We are here because we heard this was for seniors,’ so people were really thankful for the opportunity to support the program,” said McCreight.
