This story has been updated with new information.

The victim of a shooting in South Surrey Saturday night has been identified.

Troy Michael Regnier, 37, was shot multiple times outside a residence in the 16600 block of 19 Avenue, according to a news release issued Monday by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Despite life-saving efforts by the members, the man died as a result of his injuries.

“We’re urging anyone who knew Mr. Regnier to come forward and speak with police,” says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT.

“Investigators continue to work to determine the motive. This is believed to be an isolated incident and does not appear to be related to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.”

One man is dead after shots were fired Saturday night in South Surrey.

On Saturday (Aug. 27) at about 11 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a shooting found a 37-year-old man “suffering from serious injuries” in the 16600 block of 19 Avenue, reports Staff Sgt. Tyner Gillies.

He later died of his injuries.

The area of 19 Avenue between 166 and 167 Street was closed to vehicle traffic overnight.

The investigation is ongoing and in its early stages. Police canvassed the neighbourhood and spoke to witnesses.

“Indications are that this is an isolated incident and involves parties known to each other,” Gillies said.

Police believe that the shooting occurred after an altercation between the two parties. Multiple people were detained by officers, but they were still working Sunday to learn who was involved in the shooting.

Surrey RCMP, IHIT and the Integrated Forensic Identification Team are working together to determine who the shooter is.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of 19th Avenue is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
