The snow that has been falling lately is keeping skiers and outdoor enthusiasts happy, but the task of clearing all of that white fluffy stuff can be daunting, especially for seniors or those with disabilities.

With this in mind, the City of Castlegar has developed a program to acknowledge those who regularly clear snow from driveways and paths without being asked or expecting payment for their acts of kindness.

According to the city’s website: “The City of Castlegar’s Snow Buster program is about acknowledging individuals that help out in the community by clearing snow without being asked or expecting thanks. Most residents live within steps of a senior or a neighbour with a disability, and in many cases, someone is already providing a helping hand.”

All qualified snow-busting nominees will be entered into a drawing for a $250 cash prize.

To nominate someone you know, submit a letter or email to the city explaining why you are nominating the person for the Snow Buster Award.

To be eligible, the Snow Buster must be a resident of Castlegar. Nominations must include your name and contact information as well as the name, address and phone number of your nominee. The nomination deadline is March 16, 2018.

Nominations can be mailed to City of Castlegar Snow Busters Program, 460 Columbia Avenue, Castlegar, B.C. V1N 1G7; or emailed to snowbusters@castlegar.ca.
