After adopting a kitten through KAAP (Kootenay Animal Assistance Program), 7 year-old Mason Voykin decided he wanted to help animals at KAAP. The youngster decided instead of asking for gifts at his birthday party, he'd ask for money to donate to the program.

When the big day came, Mason ended up collecting $75 for KAAP. "It's very thoughtful for a little guy of 7 years-old to forego gifts and give his money to charity," said Laurel Mathew of KAAP.

KAAP is a volunteer, no-kill animal welfare organization which helps find homes for displaced pets.
