Castlegar RCMP reports that on August 23, 2012 at approximately 1300 hrs, members of the Castlegar Crime Reduction Unit attended an outdoor marihuana growing site in the Deer Park area.  Attending members located and cut down 311 Marihuana plants which were approximately four and a half feet high.  The site was located on Crown land and no suspects were found when police attended.

This site was located using the RCMP air services helicopter which has spotted the site one week ago.  The outdoor growing operation was sophisticated and employed an automatic watering system using diverted creek water.  Camouflage was also used in an attempt to hide the growing operation.  The estimated value of the Marihuana produced at this growing operation is $300,000.

The Castlegar and Trail Crime Reduction Units continue to aggressively pursue any illegal drug activity within the Cities of Castlegar and Trail to ensure the safety of the communities.  Anyone with any information regarding illegal drug activity is urged to contact the R.C.M.P. or Crime Stoppers.
