Columbia River level along Millennium Walkway that remains above water. A matter of inches away from greatly increased flooding

July 20, 2012

The City of Castlegar has closed Zuckerberg Island and Millennium Walkway Parks until further notice due to high water levels.

The City recommends people stay well clear of the Columbia River and all areas adjacent the rivers. The currents are extremely strong at this time and the saturation of the low areas with river water makes this entire area very dangerous.

Parents are also asked to discuss this issue with your children as well as with swimming in these dangerous currents.

For further information, please call the Castlegar Fire Department at 250-365-3266.

Thank you for your cooperation

Fire Chief, City of Castlegar
