A passerby is credited with putting out a brush fire near the Brilliant Bridge Wednesday afternoon before it could spread very far.

The Castlegar Fire Department was initially called to the scene by dispatch, but it was determined that the location was actually in the Pass Creek Fire Department’s (PCFD) jurisdiction.

The Castlegar command unit was first to arrive and discovered an individual had the fire under control. Castlegar command stayed on scene until PCFD arrived. Robson Fire Department also assisted.

PCFD chief Aaron Bebelman said the fire was held to an area of just 1.5 m by 1.5 m.

The area was doused with 500 gallons of water to ensure the fire was completely out.

Bebelman said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
