Public support was solicited Friday by unionized CP Rail Workers, members of Teamsters, Local 563, in a job action which had begun at 12:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Pickets had gone up near the Zellstoff Celgar pulp mill on day one. On Friday printed information was being distributed.
Bones of contention between the union and the employer are issues including:
• future pension income for active employees;
• a proposed reduction of retirement health care benefits;
• fatigue management proposals,A spokesman on the scene said there were strong feelings among the pickets that the strike could be a short one, that government back-to-work legislation would be coming soon.
