Johnny's Groceries and Gas was held up early Friday (March 7) evening.

The proprietor had earlier indicated that an amount of cash was taken and no one was hurt.

A police press release was received by the Castlegar News at 11:39 a.m. Saturday.

RCMP Sergeant Laurel Mathew of the Castlegar detachment described that at about 6:45 p.m. a complaint was received of an armed robbery at Johnny's grocery, located on Broadwater Road in Robson.

"The suspect male entered the store and brandished a firearm, ordering the employee to open the till, " the release states. "The employee complied, and the suspect escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. Neither of the two employees who were present were injured. The suspect fled on foot and has not yet been apprehended.

"The male is described as:  Caucasian, approximately 5'6", slender build.  He was dressed in black and was wearing a black mask and had a hood pulled down over his head/face. There is no known vehicle associated at this time.

"Castlegar RCMP, the Kootenay Boundary Regional  General Investigation Section, and Forensic Identification services are continuing to investigate this matter.
