Columbia Avenue near 10th Street was shut down briefly on Tuesday as fire crews extinguished a fire at a back-up generator unit. "It was a safety issue. the fire was right under those power lines that cross Columbia Avenue. We certainly didn't want those coming down on a car or someone," said Castlegar Fire Chief Gerry Rempel.
Authorities are currently looking into the cause of the fire, but foul play is not suspected.
