On July 10th, 2012 at 02:06 am, Castlegar RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a business located at 1050 Columbia Avenue.

A male suspect had gained entry into the building and was witnessed attempting to back out a vehicle through the garage doors.  The garage doors were severely damaged. The male suspect fled the scene prior to police attendance.  Police arrested the male a short time later, however, not without incident.

The male was riding his bicycle away from the scene when he spotted police. The male began cycling at full force directly towards the police officer.  He failed to respond to police commands and continued riding at full speeds towards police.  Police were able to knock the male off of his bicycle and make an arrest.

The male was treated for minor injuries and released back into policy custody. The police officer suffered minor injuries, resulting from the arrest.

The 35 year old local male is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court later today to face charges of break and enter/committing an indictable offence,  obstructing a police officer, breach of recognizance X 2  and possession of a controlled substance.  The male is known to the police.
