On May 25, 2012 at approximately 10:30 a.m. the Castlegar RCMP along with the Castlegar Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded to a medical emergency near the railway tracks at Columbia Avenue and 17th Street in Castlegar.

A 71 year old man was driving when he had what is believed to be a heart attack.  The vehicle veered off road and came to rest near the rail way tracks.  First responders and a bystander came to the driver's aid and initiated CPR.

The driver was taken to the Castlegar Community Health Center but later died.  The BC Coroners service is investigating and the crash is not believed to be associated with the drivers death.

The deceased is not a local area resident and his name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
