A three-vehicle pile up on Columbia Avenue sent one person to hospital Sept. 17.

The vehicles involved — a semi-truck , a compact car and a mini van — were all heading south on Columbia Avenue just before the stoplight at 15th Street when the incident occurred.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured, but the driver of the compact car was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance. The third driver was assessed by ambulance crews, but was released without transport.

Local RCMP and the Castlegar Fire Department also responded to the scene.

“The preliminary investigation identifies the transport truck had stopped for the red light at the intersection when there was a chain event with the compact car rear ending the transport truck, and the min-van rear ending the car,” said RCMP Sgt. Monty Taylor.

No charges have been laid at this time and police are continuing their investigation.

Any witnesses not yet interviewed by police are asked to contact the Castlegar Detachment at (250)365-7721.
