Thrums - One fatality in two-vehicle MVA

One life was lost in a two vehicle MVA Thursday morning on Highway 3A in the Thrums area between Castlegar and Nelson

The incident is described by the following press release issued by Castlegar RCMP:

On March 15, 2012 at approximately 08:30 hours Castlegar RCMPolice and the Terry's Fire Department attended to a two vehicle collision in the 1600 block of Hwy 3A at Thrums, B.C.

Initial investigation reveals the sole occupant, of a Toyota SUV was traveling south on Hwy 3A, lost control and crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head on into a Semi Truck traveling north on Hwy 3A.

The driver of the Toyota SUV, Gwen Elizabeth Kalyniuk, 56 of Nelson, died as a result of her injuries.  The driver of the Semi Truck suffered no injuries.  The Highway was closed for about 2 1/2 hours and was later opended to one way traffic.

The name of the deceased will be released when the Next of Kin is notified.
