Time for your flu shot, Castlegar

With winter setting up shop, it’s time for Castlegar residents to get the flu shot.

With winter setting up shop, it’s time once again to get your flu shot.

Interior Health is hosting a number of upcoming free flu clinics for those at risk.

Those at risk include:

• People 65 years or older and their caregivers or household contacts;

• People in residential care facilities;

• Children and adults with chronic health conditions and their household contacts;

• Kids six months to 18 years old with conditions treated for long periods of time with Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA) and their household contacts;

• Children and adults who are morbidly obese (adult BMI over or equal to 40; child BMI assessed as over or equal to 95th percentile);

• Aboriginal people;

• All children six to 59 months of age;

• Pregnant women and their household contacts;

• People who work with live poultry;

• Health care and other care providers in facilities and community settings who are capable of transmitting influenza disease to those at high risk for influenza complications;

• Individuals who provide care or service in potential outbreak settings housing high-risk persons (i.e. crews on ships);

• People who provide essential community services (i.e. first responders or correction workers);

• And visitors to health care facilities and other patient care locations.

If you fall into any of these categories, then you should attend the free drop-in flu clinic on the second floor of the Castlegar Health Centre (709 10th St.) on Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or call 250-365-4317 to book an appointment at the Castlegar Health Centre from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on one of the following days:

• Wednesday, Nov. 15;

• Monday, Nov. 20;

• Wednesday, Nov. 22;

• Monday, Nov. 27;

• Wednesday, Nov. 29;

• Monday, Dec. 4.

Those not in the “at risk” group should visit their local pharmacy to get the shot, but we suggest you call ahead to make sure they have it in stock.
