The City of Castlegar has announced temporary traffic pattern changes for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians as construction ramps up at the Park Place development at 24th Street and Columbia Avenue.

The changes will begin on Monday, Oct. 24, and continue through the end of 2022 when Nexus Development Group and the contractor expect to have the development’s foundation complete.

Changes include the temporary closure of the right turn lane onto 24th Street from Columbia Avenue.

The closure will be clearly marked and traffic turning right onto 24th Street off Columbia Avenue will be able to turn onto 23rd Street instead.

The sidewalk on 24th Street, between Columbia Avenue and 6th Avenue will also be closed.

During the closure, a pedestrian and bike lane will be delineated on the north shoulder of 24th Street, across from the construction site and a temporary crossing on the north side of the intersection of 24th Street and 6th Avenue.

If pedestrians and bikers prefer to avoid the construction area, they can use 23rd Street and the west side of Columbia Avenue.

The city says these closures are required to allow the safe flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the work area and excavation activities.

The Park Place development will include 43 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, 11 live-work units, and four-to-eight commercial spaces.
