Traffic patterns will be altered on Columbia Avenue Wednesday and Thursday

Planning work for Phase 3 of the Columbia Avenue Project to take place between 17th and 18th Street

Submitted by City of Castlegar

Traffic patterns will be altered on Columbia Avenue on Wednesday and Thursday (May 25-26) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. as the City of Castlegar begins some planning work for Phase 3 of the Columbia Avenue Redevelopment Project.

A contractor will be using a ground penetrating radar unit about the size of a lawnmower to detect the size, location, and depth of underground infrastructure.

The middle lane of Columbia Avenue, between 17th and 18th Street, will be closed but one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

There will be no left turn onto or off of Paulson Place during the work. People going to Woodland Drive or Paulson Place may want to consider 17th Street as there will be no left turn from Columbia Ave. onto 17th Street/Woodland Drive at certain times throughout the day.

Castlegar and Kinnaird used to have separate water systems. When the two communities amalgamated, Kinnaird was connected to Castlegar’s system, right at the “Castleaird Plaza”. This means that there is a lot of old, complex piping in this area.
