A two-car accident closed Highway 3A to all traffic near the Brilliant Dam northeast of Castlegar Friday morning.

Emergency responders are on scene near Lookout Road in Thrums. DriveBC had previously issued a warning of compact snow and slippery sections on the highway near the dam earlier today.

A detour is available via Pass Creek Road.

Cpl Brett Turner with the Castlegar RCMP is urging anyone that takes the Pass Creek route to drive slowly.

“That road is not designed for heavy traffic flow and road conditions are very poor,” said Turner.

The road will opened around 2 p.m to single-lane alternating traffic.

UPDATE: Highway 3A reopened around 4:30 p.m. but emergency crews were still on scene.

We will continue to update this story as information becomes available.
