UPDATE: One dead, another hospitalized in Highway 3A accident

RCMP said a passenger died at Kootenay Lake Hospital on Monday.

The accident took place approximately 10 kilometres east of South Slocan.

One person is dead and another hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after an accident on Highway 3A on Monday morning.

RCMP cruisers rushed out of town to respond to a two-vehicle accident just after 8:30 a.m. A passenger in one of the cars died after being transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital, according to an RCMP release. The driver was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital.

RCMP said the driver of the other car sustained serious non-life threatening injuries.

The accident took place approximately 10 kilometres east of South Slocan and closed down the highway until 12:30 p.m.

A few weeks ago a Mount Sentinel grad named Devon Dunkley was killed in a head-on collision on the same stretch of highway, an accident that closed the highway for hours.
