Vandals have damaged six of Castlegar’s bus shelters.

City operations manager Samuel Shine says several glass panels were destroyed on each structure last weekend.

The damaged shelters are at 5th Avenue and 32nd Street, 14th Avenue and Meadowbrook, 24th Street and 6th Avenue, Southridge Drive, 11th Street and 7th Avenue and the Brilliant Bridge (not owned by the City of Castlegar).

“It took our staff four days to clean up the debris and make the structures safe for public use,” said Shine.

“We are in the process of sourcing new tempered glass for the repairs and calculating the overall cost.”

Shine says the availability of materials will dictate how long it will take to repair the shelters.

Police are investigating the incidents and anyone with information is asked to call 250-365-7721.
