Fire crews and RCMP responded to a house fire at 7th Avenue and Yew Street in Castlegar on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. and a cloud of smoke could be seen coming from the house across town.

Two homes and a vehicle were completely destroyed and a third house was threatened.

Debra Pereversoff, the owner of the house where the fire originated, said the fire happened in a blink of an eye.

“I was sleeping on the couch when it happened. I saw my brother coming up towards me yelling ‘fire, fire,’”.

“Without even hesitation, I ran into my bedroom, grabbed my important documents and whatever I needed and out the door I went.”

Pereversoff said everyone made it out of the house before the fire spread.

George, a tenant in the house, said he was also shocked around how quickly the fire spread.

“We had absolutely no time by the looks of it. The fire was coming up quickly and the flames were really intense,” said George.

“I was lying in bed when the fire started.”

Pereversoff said she is still feeling shocked from the incident.

“I’m feeling completely numb. I have no idea where I’m going to go now or what I’m going to do,” said Pereversoff.

“However, I have a few days to figure it out. That’s for sure.”

Pereversoff said she believes the fire might’ve started from arson.

Castlegar News has reached out to RCMP to get more information on the incident.
