The man accused of starting a fire in downtown Castlegar failed to show up for his court appearance on July 26.

A bench warrant has been issued for 28-year-old Riley Jackson.

Jackson was charged with arson related to a June 4 incident after he was identified on video surveillance.

He was arrested and then released earlier this month, but then breached his bail conditions on July 15. However, he was released on bail with a promise to appear July 26 at the Castlegar Courthouse.

According to RCMP, Castlegar police and the Castlegar Fire Department have responded to a volume of suspicious fires that are suspected to have been deliberately set in Castlegar parks, forested areas, and on one occasion inside the bathroom of a local business. There have been no arrests in relation to those fires.
