A windstorm downed trees and knocked out power to over 2000 customers in the Castlegar area Wednesday morning. The storm caused similar damages elsewhere as it moved east across the province.
The north end of Castlegar was without power from about 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Castlegar Primary, Twin Rivers Elementary and Stanley Humphries Secondary schools all started their day in the dark.
School District 20 reported buses were unable to pick up some students on Pass Creek Road due to a fallen tree.
Downed trees and powerlines remained in place on Pass Creek Road at the end of the school day as well, so school buses were not running up Pass Creek Road.
Pass Creek, Shoreacres, Bonnington, Nelson and portions of the Slocan Valley were also affected.
Hundreds of FortisBC customers are still without power and Fortis estimates it may be into the evening before power is restored everywhere.
