Around 5:50 a.m., Monday, July 27 the Castlegar Fire Department received a complaint of heavy black smoke in the 1400 block of Woodland Drive. Upon investigation it was found that the smoke was coming from a burning vehicle in a gravel pit. “We put it out fairly quickly, but there was extensive damage, it will be written off.” said Fire Chief Gerry Rempel. No other property was damaged in the incident.

The fire appears to have been intentionally lit and the RCMP are investigating.
