July 29, 1935 - January 15, 2020
With heavy hearts, the family of Aldo Zanrosso of Castlegar wishes to announce his peaceful passing on January 15th, 2020, at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail. Aldo enjoyed 84 years of life.
Born in Schio, Italy, Aldo came to Canada in 1957 to seek a better life and, true to many immigrant stories, he had very little in his pockets - but he had drive, determination, smarts and those killer Italian looks. In 1961 he returned to Italy to marry Mira, the woman who would be at his side for 52 years. After the Balmer North Coal Mine explosion in Natal, BC tragically killed 15 of Aldo's friends, Mira declared "no more mining," and off they went to Castlegar in 1967. There, Aldo eventually became one of the top lumber graders at Celgar sawmill where he worked until his retirement in 1997. In his spare time, he loved fishing, going for walks at Millennium Park, playing cards, watching wrestling, riding his bike, sitting bare chested in the sun, making delicious wine and wresting wonderful tomatoes from the home's own garden.
Aldo was predeceased by Mira in 2014 and is survived by his two daughters Katya (Shawn), Amy (Dave), his grandson Seamus and his many friends in the Castlegar community. He will be sorely missed.
Aldo's passing will be celebrated by Father Raphael Benosa at St. Rita's Parish at 10:30am on Friday, January 24th, 2020.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the friends that supported him in his years after Mira's passing - especially Anelina and David, Nives and Silvio, Laurel, Elaine and Doreen. There aren't enough words to thank Dr. Scotland and the staff of the oncology ward, as well as Dr. Makwati who took such good care of him. Many thanks as well to all the caregivers, doctors, nurses and paramedics that helped Aldo at home and at the KBRH.
Forever in our hearts, you will be missed, Papa.
