It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Sherstobitoff on August 17, 2022, one week shy of his 93rd birthday. Alex was born August 24, 1929, in Glade, BC to Alex and Mary Sherstobitoff.
Alex met Lorna (nee Kooznetsoff ) in Glade and they married on February 10, 1952. She was the love of his life! This past year they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Alex and Lorna resided in Glade where they raised their four children Nettie (Raymond) Thomas, Naida (Guido) Vecchio, Marilyn (Roger) Robinson and Ken (Eva) Sherstobitoff. They were blessed with 10 grandchildren: Nicole (Andrew), Rachel (Patrick), Lindsay, Kevin, Amanda (Matt), Carlos, Larissa (Joe), Nicolas, Kirsten, Dylan and 6 great-grandchildren: Skye, Eliza, Callum, Bowen, Wyatt, and Lucien. Alex was predeceased by his father, mother, brother George, grandson Kevin and great-grandson Matteo.
Alex spent his early working years logging. After that he worked at various dams in the Kootenays. He found his niche at the Glade ferry until his retirement. His grandchildren loved to go inside the cabin of the ferry and visit him.
Alex was a very social person who loved people. There is nothing he enjoyed more than having a party with many friends and family. Everyone was always welcome. The family is grateful they could have one last party with Alex to celebrate Lorna's 90th birthday at Talarico.
Alex's favourite hobbies were golf, fishing, camping and gardening. Off Dad would go on the Kootenay River and there was a never-ending supply of fresh fish. A source of pride for Alex was their Glade hobby farm. Alex worked tirelessly with his wife on their huge garden. He loved being outside and kept his yard immaculate.
During the winters Alex and Lorna loved to travel to Hawaii.
Alex was a long-time member of the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ Doukhobors (USCC). Alex and Lorna volunteered for many activities and fundraisers.
The family would like to thank friends Heather McIntyre and Jim Derksen for their tireless assistance with Lorna, due to her worsening dementia, before her and Alex moved to Castlewood in 2017; and Chris O'Gorman for preventing a possible drowning and giving Alex an extra eight years of life.
The family would also like to thank all the staff at Castlewood and Talarico for the compassionate care Alex received in his final years.
