January 9, 2019
Ann Kinakin passed away peacefully at the Castleview Care Center on January 9 at the age of 93.

She was born in Crescent Valley and moved to Koch Siding (Slocan Park) as an infant before moving with her family to Passmore as a teenager.

Ann met her husband Peter in Oliver, BC while working in the orchards. They married in 1946 and returned to Passmore where together they built and operated a General Store (Pete's Garage).

The sale of the store in 1959 gave Ann more time for activities she enjoyed which were cooking, knitting, gardening, attending sports events, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. In1979, Peter's health suffered a setback and Ann felt she needed to go to work outside the home, so she got her driver's license (at age 54) and traveled to Raspberry Lodge (Castlegar), to a job she very much enjoyed.

In 1981, Ann and Peter moved to South Slocan and started travelling to places such as Mexico, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Cuba and Russia.  Ann enjoyed packing the camper and heading to Ainsworth to fish and spend time with the grandkids.  During this time in her life, she learned to swim, took up bowling, and continued to socialize with new and old friends.

In 1996, Ann and Peter moved to Castlegar where she spent the rest of her life.  During these later years, Ann faithfully watched and supported her favourite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays, and she did have an opportunity to see a live game.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Martha Pankoff, her husband Peter (1998) and her sister Polly Kanigan (2000).

Surviving her are her three children, Jack (Ellen) Kinakin (Penticton), Lorraine Markin (Victoria), Donna Kinakin (Terry) (Mexico), four grandchildren - Todd, Brad, Ryan, Aaron and three great grandchildren - Braden, Peter and Sarah.

A private family service was held on January 14 with interment at the Slocan Park Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Castleview Care Center for their kindness and excellent care of mom. Thank you to Dr. Merritt for his caring support in looking after Mom during her years with Alzheimers.

Thank you to Peter and Alec for providing interment at the Slocan Park Cemetery and to Jordan and Bill from the Castlegar Funeral Chapel for their services.
