May 14, 1917 - May 11, 2018
Barbara Metge passed away peacefully at Castle View Care facility on May 11, 2018, 3 days short of her 101 birthday.

Barbara had a full life with many changes that she so adapted to.

Born May 14, 1917 in the little village of Steyning, Sussex County, England, she grew up in Bognor Regis where she resided until 1946. As a war bride she arrived in Canada, March 17, 1946 and settled on a farm south of Fort MacLeod, Alberta. In 1955 she moved into Fort MacLeod and began her career as a telephone operator and then as the town clerk for the Town of Fort MacLeod.

During that time she was an avid tennis and badminton player, swimmer, golfer, exercise teacher, cross country skier and bike rider. Most of these activities she did well into her 80's. She also enjoyed bridge, knitting and crocheting.

In 2006 she moved to Castlegar to be closer to her family and spent 10 years at Castlewood Village. She could be seen daily walking Columbia Avenue. With failing health she moved to Castleview Care Facility in January of 2017.

She leaves behind her only child Pat, daughter-in-law Fran and grandchild Miranda who she so cherished.

Our special thanks to our friends who took the time to visit her over these past months. The family would also like to express our deepest gratitude to Linda King, Teresa Steenvorden, Dr. Merritt and the wonderful staff at Castleview for all their great care and loving support.
